"Alice Lake", Oil Painting After completing a dozen painting sessions (about 24 hours of work) Carl has covered the entire canvas with color. He added the pine tree thicket on the lower right portion of the canvas this evening, preparing a base from which the tall vertical pines will emerge under the large pine tree's branch. There are several old white tree stands in the reference image, poking up from the thicket. Carl experimented during this session to see what kind of detail he could get. Below is a close-up showing the little white branch sticking up from the thicket. This suggests to Carl that a fine detail will be possible in the grain of the large pine. An original 18" X 24" oil painting on stretched canvas using Winsor and Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oils. This project based on a photograph Carl's brother's brother-in-law Lee Eichelberger took while backpacking in Idaho.
