"Alice Lake", Oil Painting Carl spent tonight's painting session adding character to the background mountains - trying to make them more realistic. Then he roughed in the large area on the right side of the canvas occupied by the weathered pine tree. Carl said tonight he thinks the large tree will be the biggest challenge of this project. Getting detailed lines to come together on wet oil takes a special technique. It is very easy to smear a surface line of detail into the background color and create mud. So the trick in showing the grain on the large tree is placing it there without disturbing the paint underneath. It will take some experimentation for Carl to figure out exactly how to accomplish this. An original 18" X 24" oil painting on stretched canvas using Winsor and Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oils. This project based on a photograph Carl's brother's brother-in-law Lee Eichelberger took while backpacking in Idaho.
