"Alice Lake", Oil Painting Tonight Carl painted the lake area of the image. Carl also started the reflection in the center of the lake. Carl took time to lay some horizontal brush lines onto the lake surface. Before putting too much detail onto the lake surface Carl plans to knife in the mountains across the top of the horizon. He says he will probably put in the large foreground tree on the right - and maybe even start some of the smaller tree detail before finishing the lake surface. Of course at this point it is all experimental for Carl. He still has a great deal of wonder about the painting process and how paint has a life of its own. What starts as a well defined reference photograph evolves into an image with its own unique character. An original 18" X 24" oil painting on stretched canvas using Winsor and Newton Artisan Water Mixable Oils. This project based on a photograph Carl's brother's brother-in-law Lee Eichelberger took while backpacking in Idaho.
